Webuild in Saudi Arabia
November 9, 2015 - The Salini Impregilo Group has been active in Saudi Arabia since 1966, when it first started building numerous hydraulic works in the Mecca, Jeddah and Riyadh areas, on behalf of the local Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture, and related projects in the field of civil and military construction.
Subsequently, the Group's area of intervention grew to include the hospital construction field, with the building of various care facilities, among which the most ambitious is definitely the Al Hasa complex, within the Saudi Arabian National Guard Hospital Project.
Since the 70s, Salini Impregilo has built 22 works only in Saudi Arabia (exceeding € 20 million in value), including one that is currently under construction.1
After the construction sector, which represented for several decades the Group's major field of interest, Salini Impregilo started to focus on urban mobility, with the construction of Line 3 of the Riyadh Metro, a work that plays a key role for the capital's practicability, a city that in recent years has been undergoing one of the most rapid developments in the world.

The Salini Impregilo Group's commitment in Saudi Arabia is represented by 22 projects in nearly 50 years, in various fields of expertise.
ONGOING
The project envisages the engineering and execution of Riyadh’s New Metro Line, the longest line of the giant underground project of the Saudi Arabian capital.
Line 3 runs for 41.58 km, starting from the west (near the Jeddah Expressway) and ending in the east (near the National Guard Camp of Khashm El Aam) for a total of 22 built stations, divided into four different types.
The trains that will run on it will have a maximum length of 36.7 m (2 carriages), a capacity of 267 passengers and a maximum speed of 100 km/h.
The work plays a key role for the city's practicability, considering that its population is expected to increase from its current 6 million inhabitants to 8 million by 2030. The new metro will therefore reduce traffic congestion and lower pollution, since it will allow to limit the number of vehicles present on the city's streets, creating a sustainable and efficient means of transport.
MILESTONES - COMPLETED PROJECTS
The Saudi Arabian National Guard Hospital Project is one of the most important in the Al Hasa region, located in the eastern part of the kingdom.
It comprises hospital buildings for a total of 467 beds, serving military personnel and employees of the National Guard, together with ancillary buildings, housing and other facilities to create autonomous townships.
The project is located in three areas, Al Hasa, Dammam and Jeddah for a total intervention area of 53,279 m2. This structure, over time, received the accreditation issued by JCI, a world leader for the improvement of health care quality, due to the effort made in spreading high patient care standards.
A symbol of Saudi Arabia’s important economic growth over the past few years, the centre is composed of a 30-storey central tower, topped by a 120 m crescent-shaped steel structure, and two adjoining side buildings. The 300 m high tower is the tallest construction of its type in the Middle East and in Europe.
The building, in addition to being placed in the world records for its height, in 2002 won the prestigious Emporis Skyscraper Award for being the "world's best designed skyscraper".
