Cityringen, a story of green mobility

A sustainable world starts with sustainable cities 

When you walk along Copenhagen’s streets you feel as if you are at the centre of a busy crossroad: bikes speeding in one direction, buses heading in the other. And the asphalt vibrates under your feet as the metro passes by. 

In Denmark’s capital, a city with 775 thousand inhabitants (2 million, if you consider the whole metropolitan area), mobility is something different from anywhere else. Private cars are rarely used because currently 40% of residents use alternative means of transport, a percentage destined to increase significantly in the following years. The climate doesn't help because winters are very cold. 

However, mobility makes sense only if it is also sustainable. This is the rule followed by many citizens. This is also a must for the local authorities and the national government, who launched initiatives aimed at developing the public transport network several years ago.
