Webuild: “Evolutio” immersive room dedicated to infrastructure inaugurated in Palermo

Installation at Villa Zito unveiled during Women Economic Forum to celebrate major infrastructure projects that have transformed Southern Italy and Sicily

From today until November 9, the immersive experience is open to the public free of charge, showcasing major infrastructure works and a vision for the future of Southern Italy

PALERMO, Italy, October 30, 2025 – An immersive journey celebrating bridges, railways, dams, and subways: this is what Webuild is proposing with the inauguration of a multimedia room at Villa Zito in Palermo, home to the Fondazione Sicilia. The temporary installation, adapted from the current EVOLUTIO exhibition at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome, highlights the role of major infrastructure in Italy’s development. The room will be open to the public free of charge until November 9. Its opening coincides with the Women Economic Forum, a two-day event starting October 30 that focuses on dialogue between institutions, businesses, and society on the future of the Mediterranean.

The room presents a visual journey spanning more than a century of major infrastructure projects: from dams that brought water and energy, to subways that reshaped cities, and railways that redefined the concept of distance. Archival images and videos show the infrastructure that connected Italy – from the Autostrada del Sole motorway to high-speed rail – and those currently revolutionising mobility in the South, with a special focus on Sicily. Among them, the high-capacity Palermo–Catania–Messina, part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) corridor.

EVOLUTIO is a cultural and educational project conceived by Webuild to highlight the strategic value of infrastructure through visual and multimedia storytelling. Open to the public in Rome at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis until November 9, the exhibition is designed to be itinerant, with stops in various Italian cities – from Milan to Naples, Reggio Calabria to Palermo – and abroad as well, in countries such as Australia, the United States, and Saudi Arabia. The project also includes EVOLUTIO.MUSEUM, the first digital museum dedicated to infrastructure, showcasing hundreds of the Group’s projects organised into artistic hubs, with selected photos from Webuild’s multimedia archive – a cultural asset comprising over 1.5 million photos and videos.

The installation in Palermo is part of a broader narrative reflecting Webuild’s commitment to Sicily, where the Group is contributing to a major infrastructure development plan. Yesterday, the Bicocca–Catenanuova high-capacity railway segment – the first to be built on the island – was inaugurated. It is a key section of the Palermo–Catania–Messina high-capacity railway corridor, on which Webuild is working with six additional projects. The plan is not only transforming mobility but also generating employment and development, with an estimated about 7,000 jobs created across Webuild projects, both direct and third-party personnel, confirming the Group’s role as an industrial and social driver for Sicily and Southern Italy.
