Webuild completes tunnel excavation for Doha Metro

March 21, 2016 – "We are the first group to finish excavation work on the Doha Metro and it's always a pleasure to be first, especially when it happens to be Italians who achieve it," said Chief Executive Pietro Salini of the completion of the two parallel tunnels for the northern section of Doha Metro's Red Line, Qatar.
The section of the line on which the ISG joint-venture led by the Group worked – also known as Red Line North - is part of an ambitious infrastructure project that belongs to the country's national development plan called Qatar National Vision 2030. The section – a €1.8 billion contract – is the underground part of the Red Line that will run through downtown Qatar's capital. Salini Impregilo and its partners drilled the tunnels that run for about 11.5 kilometres, some 20 metres below ground. Once the entire project is complete in 2019, the Metro will cut an hour in traffic to about half the time for the same distance travelled.
Thanks to the Red Line North Underground project, Salini Impregilo consolidates its role in the "rebirth" of metro urban transport through projects like the new AV Ankara-Istanbul line in Turkey, the Milan-Genoa line in Italy, the Northwest Metro in Sydney, Australia, metro projects in Thessaloniki in Greece, San Francisco in the US, Copenhagen in Denmark, Santiago in Chile, Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and Lima in Peru.
