Bridge over Danube river is same type as one designed for Strait of Messina

MILAN, July 5, 2023 - Inauguration nears for Romania's longest bridge – and the second longest suspended bridge on continental Europe: the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Braila Bridge built by a consortium led by Webuild over the Danube River will take place tomorrow.

The bridge has seen 1,350 people and 100 direct suppliers work on the project. It has a central span measuring 1,120 metres, a width that touches 31.7 metres and two towers that stand 192.4 metres in height.

The bridge opens a new transit route that will transform mobility for the entire region. It will enable the crossing of the river in two rather than 45 minutes. It will serve 7,000 vehicles a day

Commissioned by CNAIR – Compania Nationala de Administrare a Infrastructurii Rutiere – for the Romanian Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the project was funded by the Operational Programme for Large Infrastructure (POIM) in Europe.

Webuild built this structure thanks to the skills learned in building over 1,000 kilometres of bridges and viaducts globally, among which some of the most famous suspended bridges like the Second and Third Bosphorus Bridges. The innovative solutions it has developed will also be applied in the construction of the planned bridge over the Strait of Messina.
