Genoa, November 5, 2025 –The first of the 35 mega-caissons of the new Genoa Breakwater was installed offshore near the city’s port. It is a concrete colossus 33 meters high (like an eleven-story building), 67 meters long and 30 meters wide, designed to reshape the city's maritime profile.
Manufactured by the PerGenova Breakwater consortium, led by Webuild on behalf of the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority, the caisson was placed 50 meters below sea level, a depth never before attempted in Europe for a breakwater.
