Webuild CEO Pietro Salini: invest in desalination to resolve quickly, structurally Italy’s drought problem

DECLARATIONS

MILAN, July 1, 2022 – “We need to invest in a plan to safeguard the country’s water supply for the long term. For us, at Webuild, investing in desalination plants to produce potable water from sea water is the best and quickest solution to resolve the dramatic drought problem afflicting Italy. What is needed is a structured plan that is able to safeguard the country’s water for the long term”, said Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of Webuild, during an interview on GR1, a radio news programme by Italian state broadcast Rai, about the converting sea water into drinking water to help the country deal with drought.

The issue is the focus of a project called “Acqua per la Vita” (Water for Life) that it will soon present to government and public institutions to meet the need for water in a structured and long-lasting way with the construction of desalination plants.

With Webuild’s project, added Salini, “some 30 percent of the Italian population – nearly 17 million people – would no longer have to suffer from thirst. The project could be done quickly: in just two years, Italy could have all the water that it would need. It is a system that Webuild has applied to guarantee drinking water in Dubai and we think it could be brought to Italy”.
