Webuild: Genoa New Breakwater reaches 1.6 km, 10 caissons installed during summer months

A new milestone achieved thanks to intensive offshore operations and coordination of production, logistics, and marine installation activities 

 Work continues both on the seabed and on the surface sections of the infrastructure, while ensuring the full operational continuity of the Port of Genoa, a strategic hub for national and European logistics 

 Seabed improvement works and construction of the breakwater superstructure are also progressing

MILAN, September 22, 2026 – Construction of the Genoa New Breakwater keeps advancing. With the installation of the latest caisson, the 10th one positioned during the summer period, the infrastructure has come to reach a total length of 1,600 metres.

This achievement confirms the acceleration of offshore activities in recent months, made possible by a favourable combination of weather and sea conditions and by the organisational capabilities of the PerGenova Breakwater Consortium, led by Webuild, which is delivering the project on behalf of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority.

The full integration of production sites, logistics operations, and offshore construction activities has made it possible to maximise available operational windows, ensuring continuity of works and the highest safety standards throughout every stage of construction. At the same time, the project has guaranteed the uninterrupted operation of the Port of Genoa and the regular continuation of the port's commercial activities.

Alongside the installation of the caissons, work is also progressing on seabed consolidation, as well as on the construction of the breakwater superstructure and wave wall, key components designed to protect the port from stormy waves.

The Genoa New Breakwater represents a strategic investment for the future of the Ligurian port and the Italian port system as a whole. Once completed, it will enable the safe access of next-generation vessels, strengthening Genoa's role as the country's main gateway to international markets and contributing to the competitiveness of the logistics corridors linking Northern Italy with the heart of Europe.
