Lane (Webuild) completes Kansas City Levees Flood Risk Management Project in the United States

Recognized by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for exceptional execution and delivery, the project safeguards over 27,000 residents, 2,700 businesses, and one of the nation's primary logistics and rail hubs, protecting nearly $10 billion in total assets.

MILAN, October 29, 2026 – Lane, the U.S. subsidiary of the Webuild Group, has completed work on the Kansas City Levees Flood Risk Management Project, a major flood protection initiative to reduce significantly flood risk in the heart of the city’s industrial and commercial districts.

Delivered by Lane on behalf of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which recognised the project for its exceptional efficiency and delivery in record time, the project improves the reliability and resiliency of the area’s flood protection system along the Kansas and Missouri rivers. It safeguards from potential flood damage more than 27,000 residents, 2,700 businesses and structures, as well as nearly nearly $10 billion in property and infrastructure.

The project significantly enhances the resiliency of one of the largest freight rail networks in the United States—a critical junction for freight and raw material transport along the country’s major commercial corridors. It safeguards communities, economic development and critical assets for decades to come.

Work covered more than 16 miles (over 25 kilometrers) of levees and floodwalls across the industrial and commercial districts of Argentine, Armourdale, and the Central Industrial District, spanning the Kansas and Missouri rivers. Key highlights include more than one million cubic yards (more than 760,000 cubic metres) of earthwork, 25,000 feet (over 7.6 kilometres) of new concrete floodwall construction, 120 relief wells, the replacement of 12 railroad closure structures, and modifications to 175 existing utilities. They were executed while maintaining full operational continuity at existing infrastructure.

Initiated in July 2021, the project required close coordination among federal entities, local governments, and railroad operators, confirming the ability of Lane and the Webuild Group to execute complex infrastructure projects in high-density operational environments.
