Lane (Webuild Group), in joint venture, secures $643 million (€547 million) for Westshore Interchange Project in Florida

Webuild strengthens leadership in U.S. highway sector

Westshore Interchange project is largest infrastructure initiative for Florida Department of Transportation in Tampa Bay area

Project secured in joint venture with Superior Construction to benefit estimated 400,000 vehicles per day along one of state’s busiest corridors

Phased approach developed with FDOT to best meet community needs

MILAN, January 21, 2026 –  Lane, the U.S. subsidiary of Webuild Group, in joint venture with Superior Construction, has signed contracts totaling a combined $643 million (€547 million) for the construction of the Westshore Interchange, the largest infrastructure project by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in the Tampa Bay area. The work, which has begun, is being carried out on one of the U.S. state’s most heavily trafficked road corridors.

In 2023, the joint venture – owned by Lane (50 percent) and Superior Construction (50 percent) – had already signed a $10 million contract for design services, leading to these latest contracts. The phased development of the project involved close collaboration with FDOT, resulting in a design that maximises infrastructure value and best addresses community needs.

The project will modernise and improve safety and traffic capacity on key arteries such as I-275, SR 60 and Veterans Expressway, supporting the area’s economic and demographic growth.

Works include new elevated ramps for easier access to the Tampa International Airport, wider lanes on State Road 60, connection to express lanes, and improved infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians. They will also link northern and southern areas of the highway through new underpasses and bridges. An estimated 400,000 vehicles are expected to benefit from reduced travel times and safer infrastructure every day.

With its subsidiary Lane, Webuild is reinforcing its already strong presence in the United States, positioning itself as a strategic partner for the modernisation of the country’s infrastructure. The country is one of the Group’s most strategic markets, with Lane operating as a leading player. Among its most significant ongoing projects are the twin Palisades tunnel to enhance rail connections in New York and, in Florida, the Seminole Expressway/SR 417 and I-275/I-4 Downtown Tampa Interchange projects in Tampa, as well as an intersection between I-4 and Sand Lake Road and between I-4 and SR 535 in Orange County. In July, contracts were secured to widen and upgrade works on I-85 in North Carolina and upgrade a section of I-75, one of Florida’s main northbound corridors.
