Webuild: San Pasquale Station on Naples Metro Line 6 wins the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2025
San Pasquale is one of the 14 Webuild stations in Naples, including the award-winning “Toledo” Station on Line 1
Milan, 5 June 2025 – A new accolade has been awarded to Naples’ Metro Line 6: , built by Webuild and designed by Italian-Slovenian architect Boris Podrecca, with installations by Austrian artist Peter Kogler, has won the international BIG SEE Architecture Award 2025 in the Architecture category. The BIG SEE Awards celebrate visionary and innovative design, highlighting the creative potential of Southeast Europe and beyond.
"The variety of surface treatments and the polyphony of materials establish a dialogue between this technologically advanced structure and its historic surroundings, giving the site a unique identity,” reads the Award citation. “The exits are integrated into an open plaza design, culminating in a structure that extends five storeys below sea level."
San Pasquale is one of the latest additions to Naples’ network of “Art Stations”, which have been enriching the city’s metro system since July 2024. It is part of Line 6, which spans 5.5 kilometres and connects the Fuorigrotta district to Piazza Municipio via 8 stations.
The station interior spans five levels, measures 100 metres in length and 35 metres in height. Its design evokes a descent into the sea, reminiscent of a sunken vessel. This imagery is enhanced by large, coloured panels in three shades of blue simulating ocean waves along the walls. The central structure is clad in corten steel—a material typically used in shipbuilding—featuring simulated portholes that both reinforce the underwater theme and serve as light sources at platform level.
Built by Webuild in collaboration with its partner Moccia Irme, San Pasquale station is located along the central section of the Riviera di Chiaia. Its construction also led to the redevelopment of Largo Pignatelli, adjacent to the namesake Villa, which has been transformed into a welcoming new square with seating areas and greenery, including newly planted trees.
San Pasquale is one of 14 Webuild metro stations in Naples. The Group played a key role in the development of Line 1, constructing 10 of its 20 operational stations, including several of the most iconic “Art Stations”, such as the award-winning Toledo, Università, Dante, Museo and Materdei. Webuild is currently building the on Line 1 and the —part of the new Line 7 or “Bretella di Monte Sant’Angelo”—which features works by British-Indian-Iraqi sculptor Anish Kapoor. The Group is also at work on the Parco San Paolo station and is doubling a 5-kilometre stretch of the Cumana railway , which connects Naples with Pozzuoli.
