MILAN, March 30, 2026 – The signature of the contract was held today marking the start of design works and subsequent construction of the first section of Lot 1 of the new Line 10 of the Naples Metro. The contract is valued at approximately €660 million, and it was awarded last December to a consortium led by Webuild. The project, part of a larger investment exceeding €3.1 billion, represents one of the most strategic infrastructures for sustainable mobility in Southern Italy. Attending the signing ceremony were Roberto Fico, President of the Campania Region; Gaetano Manfredi, Mayor of Naples; Webuild Chief Executive Pietro Salini; EAV President Umberto De Gregorio; and the Edoardo Cosenza, Councillor for Infrastructure of the Municipality of Naples.

“With today’s signing, Webuild renews its deep bond with Naples, a city that – with its Art Stations and numerous others works we are helping build – is demonstrating how major infrastructure projects can become engines of urban regeneration and beauty, creating employment for the local area,” said Salini. “The new Line 10, in addition to being an engineering work that shortens the distance between the city centre, the hinterland, and the high-speed rail network, represents a fundamental piece for the sustainable modernisation of a city that, strengthened by its own history, aims to once again bring innovation to urban transport.”

Line 10 is set to transform mobility in the northeastern area of Naples through a 14-kilometre route with 12 stations, enabling travel between the city centre and the Naples-Afragola station in about 20 minutes. The line will serve more than 650,000 residents in a densely populated area, providing a sustainable alternative to road traffic. The initiative will also generate benefits during construction: the first section of Lot 1 alone is expected to create around 700 jobs, both direct and indirect, rising to 1,500 upon completion of the entire project.

Construction of Line 10 will be carried out in phases. The contract signed today covers the construction of Phase 1A of Lot 1 and also grants the consortium the exclusive right to execute further works – currently awaiting funding – for the future extension of the line toward the city centre and the Naples-Afragola station, bringing the total value of the Lot 1 to more than €1.7 billion. Besides Webuild, the consortium includes Eteria Consorzio Stabile, Costruire, ICM and M.N. Metropolitana di Napoli.

Phase 1A of Lot 1 will affect the municipality of Naples and the surrounding areas (Afragola, Casoria, and Casavatore) and includes the first 6.5 kilometres of the line and seven stations: three to be fully built (Di Vittorio, Casoria Centro, Afragola Centro) and four to be partially initiated in this first phase (Casavatore San Pietro, Casoria Casavatore, Casoria Afragola, Afragola Garibaldi). Completion of Lot 1 will involve the construction of an additional 7.3 kilometres of line connecting the city centre to the Naples-Afragola high-speed station, with five new stations and the completion of the four already initiated under Phase 1A, along with other strategic works such as a new parking facility with approximately 1,000 parking spaces serving the Naples-Afragola station.

Line 10 will ensure efficient intermodal connections with the existing metro network. The main interchange during the first construction phase will be Di Vittorio station, where the new line will connect to Lines 1 and 11, improving access to the city centre and Capodichino airport. Once fully operational, the route will also provide additional connections at the Piazza Garibaldi transport hub in Naples with Lines 1 and 2, the Circumvesuviana rail network, and national and regional rail services, as well as a direct link to the Naples-Afragola high-speed rail station. An interconnection with the regional lines at the Casoria-Afragola station is also planned, via the existing railway station. The project will also support the redevelopment of public spaces along the route and the creation of green areas, enhancing neighbourhoods previously not served by metro infrastructure – including districts of significant cultural and tourist value, such as Piazza Carlo III in Naples, currently undergoing major restoration of the historic Real Albergo dei Poveri.

Line 10 strengthens Webuild’s role in developing infrastructure in Southern Italy, where the Group is engaged in 21 projects for a total awarded value worth more than €16 billion, employing 10,200 people, both directly and indirectly, and involving 7,500 direct suppliers since the beginning of operations. With the awarding of Line 10, the number of metro stations built or under construction by Webuild rises to 21. Webuild is currently working in the Campania region on four lots of the Naples–Bari high-speed/high-capacity railway and on Lot 1A of the Salerno–Reggio Calabria high-speed/high-capacity railway, both strategic projects for the development of sustainable mobility in Southern Italy.
