MILAN, November 8, 2025 – Starting Monday, November 10, the Monte Sant'Angelo station on the new Line 7 of the Naples metro network will open to the public. Built by Webuild, the station is part of a broader investment in southern Italy, where the Group is developing projects worth a total of approximately €15 billion. It is one of the 14 Webuild stations on the metro network, including several iconic “Art Stations" such as the award-winning Toledo, Università, Dante, Museo and Materdei.

The opening marks the beginning of train service on Line 7 between Monte Sant’Angelo and Soccavo, where an interchange with the Circumflegrea line is also planned. This first section of the line improves the city’s public transport system, offering options via connections with the existing metro network. Passengers travelling from Monte Sant’Angelo can transfer at Montesanto to the Circumflegrea and Cumana lines, which link the city centre with the Phlegraean area. They can also get to the Vomero-bound cable car. Montesanto also provides connections to Line 2 and nearby central stations on Line 1, such as Piazza Dante and Toledo, offering yet another alternative to private transport in a densely populated area.

Commissioned by EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno), a public entity overseeing the project on behalf of Campania Region, Monte Sant'Angelo station is part of the city’s “Art Stations” initiative. It features two monumental installations by internationally renowned artist Anish Kapoor, with one located at each entrance. One serves the campus of the University of Naples Federico II, while the other entrance is in the Rione Traiano neighborhood. The sculptures, shaped like giant mouths, envelop commuters as they enter, transforming the station into an immersive experience reminiscent of a descent into Hell. The interior, built underground on a single sloping level, evokes the inside of a cavern thanks to the natural rock-like finish of the tunnels. Access to the platforms is provided via escalators and distinctive inclined elevators inspired by the city's cable cars.

Monte Sant’Angelo is the first of four stations planned for Line 7, which will span over 4.5 kilometres, mostly underground. It will connect to Mostra station, with interchanges for the Cumana line; Line 6; and the nearby Campi Flegrei station on Line 2. Webuild is also building the Parco San Paolo station on Line 7, where over 50 percent of the work has been completed. The first two of five underground levels are done, and the third level’s slab is nearing completion. Excavation has also begun on the tunnel connecting to the future Terracina station.

Also in Naples, Webuild is working on the Capodichino station on Line 1, which will link the city’s three major transport hubs – the port, the airport, and the railway network, including high-speed services. Additionally, the Group is doubling the Cumana line between Dazio and Cantieri stations, covering approximately 5 kilometres.
