MILAN, July 6, 2026 – Construction of the Pedemontana Piemontese highway in northern Italy is officially underway. The project will improve transport connections in the industrial areas of the eastern part of the Piedmont region. The project, being delivered by Webuild and its subsidiary Cossi Costruzioni on behalf of ANAS (FS Italiane Group), will connect the A4 Turin–Milan and A26 Genoa Voltri–Gravellona Toce highways along the corridor between Masserano and Ghemme. It will facilitate the movement of people and goods across the provinces of Biella, Vercelli and Novara.
The official ceremony marking the start of works was attended by Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Claudio Andrea Gemme, Chief Executive of ANAS and Nicola Meistro, Senior Vice President of Webuild. The new infrastructure will strengthen links between the national motorway network, local roads and the area’s productive system, facilitating smoother traffic flows and improving connectivity among the main economic hubs of eastern Piedmont. The highway, which will extend for approximately 15.4 kilometres, will include six viaducts. One of them will cross the Sesia River for approximately 820 metres. There will also be six overpasses, four interchanges, six underpasses, hydraulic and environmental mitigation works, a new toll station, and provisions for a future service area.
The Pedemontana Piemontese project brings together Webuild and Cossi Costruzioni, leveraging complementary expertise developed through the delivery of major infrastructure works. It will benefit from Webuild’s international experience in developing complex infrastructure and from Cossi Costruzioni, an Italian subsidiary with a strong local presence and extensive experience in transport projects.
The launch of the Pedemontana Piemontese is part of Webuild’s broader commitment to Northern Italy, where the Group is involved in the development of 10 infrastructure projects, employing more than 8,800 people and engaging a supply chain of around 4,900 companies. The projects range from the Brenner Base Tunnel to the Verona–Padua High-Speed/High-Capacity rail line; from the Terzo Valico dei Giovi–Genoa rail line to the New Genoa Breakwater, as well as the Autostrada Pedemontana Lombarda. These construction sites represent an important driver of employment and industrial development, thanks to the involvement of companies, suppliers and specialised professionals.
