Danish Prime Minister visits Webuild site in Copenhagen

Copenhagen, January 29, 2015 – The first important milestone in the construction of Cityringen - the Copenhagen metro system on which Salini Impregilo is working as part of the Copenhagen Metro Team (CMT) – was celebrated today. The breakthrough by two boring machines at the site that will link the rail network and the new metro line occurred some 30 meters under the historical train station. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was present to congratulate the team.

Denmark's capital boasts the most advanced public transport system in Europe, which will be completed in 2019. The fully automated, driverless line will operate 24 hours a day, with minimum intervals between trains of just 100 seconds, providing mobility for 130 million passengers a year. The project presents technical challenges because of its complexity.

“The Copenhagen H station is the large traffic center which connects the capital to the rest of Denmark. The future metro station will therefore not only benefit the residents of Copenhagen but also all those who use Copenhagen H as an entry to the city or who are going away from the capital and around in Denmark,” says Mayor Frank Jensen, who witnessed the breakthrough together with Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt and Transport Minister Magnus Heunicke.
