Italian Premier Matteo Renzi visits Gibe III construction site in Ethiopia

July 14, 2015 - "Italian Pride": The Italian premier, Matteo Renzi, encouraged engineers and workers currently engaged in the construction of the Gibe III dam in the south west area of Ethiopia, a Salini Impregilo construction that is 246 meters tall and capable, through 2 galleries, to bring water to the hydroelectric plant that will produce 1870 megawatt of energy. Renzi highlighted that this amount of energy is equal to the energy produced by 2 nuclear plants. 

The Premier and Pietro Salini reached the dam, which is located between the mountains 300 km distant from Addis Ababa. "I am very proud - said Renzi - of this cooperation between these two Countries. Italy does not often know of the extraordinary things that its people can do around the world. We are a Country that is really strong with regard to Engineering". This is why Renzi has encouraged the Italians to “stop crying and acting the victim game, because it is true that we need to implement the needed reforms, but we also must be aware that the world needs more Italy than ever".  

The Italian Premier encouraged the Italian companies to keep carrying out their work with great passion and expressed great appreciation for Salini Impregilo. These words of great esteem were directed to the Top Management and to all the workers present on the site and who were engaged in constructing the dam. 

Renzi received, as a gift, a book on the dams that have been implemented by the Group, and that was signed by all the local workers. 

“The Gibe III dam project is very important for Ethiopia and will greatly improve this Country's economy", stated with extreme satisfaction, Salini Impregilo's CEO, Pietro Salini. Gibe III, just like for the other dams realized by the Group in this African country, "will transform water into clean energy, creating peaceful relations with the confining populations, bringing energy to the villages and improving the living conditions of the population”, declared Salini. He also adds that Ethiopia will be one the economies in the world that will grow the most in the following years.
