Italy Senate President Casellati: Genoa bridge symbol of rebirth, example of Italy without bureaucracy. Thanks to workers, Salini, Bucci and Toti
MILAN, May 1, 2020 – “I am here today to thank all the workers who have continued to work despite the emergency, to thank to Salini, the mayor of Genoa (Bucci) and the Governor (Toti). It is in Genoa where Italy has won because the Bridge is a symbol of rebirth and an example of an Italy that can accomplish things without constraints and without bureaucracy,” said Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, President of the Senate of the Republic, during a visit to the new Bridge in Genoa accompanied by Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of Salini Impregilo (Webuild), the company building the Bridge together with Fincantieri.
“Let’s start again in safety. This bridge, which is illuminated in tricolours and moves us, lights up again our future. Redesigning a new Italy means reopening so many activities, taking into account the safety measures that have to be adopted. Work must be protected.”
Work was also at the centre of the message from Pietro Salini, who wants to start again with a big infrastructure plan. With the construction of hospitals and the start of a massive plan for the maintenance of all the infrastructure in Italy to restart the economy and bring work to thousands of small- and medium-sized businesses. “I would like that from the bridge there goes out the message that what we want is to work, we do not ask for anything else,” he said. “There should not be a day that goes with people not able to work. There should not be a day in which we do not build public works like this one.”
During the last 114 years, Salini Impregilo has applied its expertise and experience to building more than 120 bridges and viaducts for a combined total of 626 kilometres across the globe.
