MILAN, February 25, 2021 – “What’s the best thing that a company can do today? Invest in the future, nurture the next generation, invest in universities and, most of all, do it together. This is the new model to adopt to contribute to making Italy ever more competitive in the world,” said Pietro Salini, Chief Executive of the Webuild Group, told a news conference held to present UniWeLab, a research laboratory created by Webuild and the University of Genoa, the latest example of the Group’s interest in the Italian region of Liguria and its young people.

“Genoa is a city with a glorious history,” he added. “And it will have a beautiful future if this generation is able to work to turn it into a port that acts as the starting point for the distribution of merchandise across Europe. With a high-speed railway that will act as a virtual metro line between Genoa and Milan, we will connect Genoa with the rest of Europe. We will allow this extraordinary place, home to hundreds of years of art, beauty and culture, to keep its dynamic spirit. We have to give this region the opportunity to do things – and there is a lot to do. Our country has an infrastructure programme that serves as a great opportunity to change for the better. And Webuild plans to contribute by providing creative solutions to meet the demands of the future in a sustainable way. We are all on the front line in facing the challenges posed by the future.”

The collaboration with the University of Genoa is the latest in a series of training, financial support and talent recruitment initiatives for young people that Webuild has been leading for a number of years in partnership with many universities in Italy and abroad. They are aimed at professional training: from talent selection to participation in construction sites in countries where the Group operates to tutoring for careers in construction – all with the aim of bringing value to communities. The Group also promotes partnerships in research and innovation within the context of Open Innovation, as shown by UniWeLab. Other agreements have been reached with Italian universities such as Politecnico di Milan, Bocconi University and others in countries of interest such as the University of Technology Sydney and University of Melbourne.
