Salini Impregilo Group in $705M Highway Project in U.S. State Washington

PRESS RELEASES

MILAN, October 31, 2019 –Lane, a U.S. company that is part of the Salini Impregilo Group, has won a design-build contract with an overall value of $705 million to widen the highway and install a dual express toll system on Washington’s I-405 between Renton and Bellevue, one of the U.S. state’s most travelled and congested corridors.

The contract, won by a joint-venture involving Lane with a 40% stake and partner Flatiron West, involves widening the highway and installing dual express toll lanes between the I-405/SR interchange in Renton and NE 6th Street in Bellevue.

Work is expected to start in early 2020 and be completed in 2024.

This contract reconfirms Lane’s leadership as a highway contractor in the United States. It has nearly a billion dollars’ worth of active roadway contracts in the North Carolina market, a $404-million share in the I-10 Corridor Express Lanes project in California, and a $253-million contract to construct a portion of Florida’s Wekiva Parkway.

The second contract won by Lane in Washington following the signing of one for $255 million for a water storage tunnel, marks a further expansion of Salini Impregilo in the United States, its biggest market by revenue. This growth trend falls in line with the launch of Progetto Italia (Project Italy), an industrial operation led by Salini Impregilo to consolidate the Italian infrastructure sector in order to compete better in international markets. In the United States, the Group aims to increase its market share with new projects in the transport, water and tunnelling sectors.

In addition to its highway and bridge work, Lane’s portfolio spans across the tunnelling, metro and mass transit, and water and wastewater treatment plant sectors. Notable projects include a high-speed railway between Dallas and Houston; the Northeast Boundary Tunnel (NEBT) in Washington, D.C., and the replacement of the Unionport Bridge in New York.
