Milan, June 22, 2016 - Salini Impregilo is on the short list for a design-and-build contract in Melbourne, Australia worth €3.6 billion (AU$5.5 billion).

Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan announced that Salini Impregilo and its consortium partners - Lane Worldwide Infrastructure (fully owned by Salini Impregilo), and Fluor Australia - are among the 3 contenders for the Western Distributor, one of the highest priority road projects for the government in the state of Victoria.

The project includes the widening of the West Gate Freeway, a tunnel under Yarraville, a second river crossing and connections to the port, among other works. It is designed to ease traffic congestion on the existing West Gate Bridge, cut commuting times and create 5,600 jobs.

The completion date is planned by 2022.

Salini Impregilo, which has a world-class expertise in public works for sustainable transportation, confirms its important presence in Australia. In April, Salini Impregilo has been awarded with the Airport Link in Perth, a €791.7 million (AU$1.176 billion) contract to design, build and maintain the underground Metro line connecting Forrestfield suburb with the Perth Airport and the existing rail network. In the East Coast, Salini Impregilo is currently delivering an important part of the Sydney Metro, the largest project in the country.
