March 29, 2016 - The particle accelerator of the Fermi Lab (United States), the most important Physics research centre in the US, which will be visited in the following days by Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, was built by Salini Impregilo.

This work was built by the Group in 2000 on behalf of the Universities Research Ass. (URA) funded by the DOE Department of Energy - USA. The 1,200 metre long Tunnel, worth $40 million, created as part of the “Neutrino at Main Injector” programme, measures 3.6 – 9 m in diameter, and allows the acceleration of neutrinos at the main injector.

This Lab, located in Batavia, at an hour's distance from Chicago (Illinois), owes its name from the Physics Nobel Prize winner Enrico Fermi who, after running away from Italy, established himself at the University of Chicago. The Fermi Lab has for 40 years now been the number one lab of the United States as far as research on the physics of particles is concerned.

The Fermi Lab Tunnel testifies Salini Impregilo's excellence, which even through the Lane acquisition, aims at strengthening its presence in the United States, now the Group's first and most important market. Salini Impregilo's growth forecasts, which aim at making 25% of the total turnover in the Country, are also helped by the FAST Act, the US government's plan, which sees an additional $305 billion investment in infrastructure to build roads, motorways, bridges and railways.
