"USA: Lake Mead Hydraulic Tunnel Will Quench Las Vegas"

NEWS

March 27, 2015 - The Lake Mead construction site has opened its doors to a new group of Italian and foreign journalists, providing them with the opportunity to visit one of Salini Impregilo’s projects that makes tunnelling engineering history.

The project involves the construction of a system for collecting and transporting the waters of Lake Mead, the largest man-made lake in the United States, approximately 30 kilometres south-east of Las Vegas (Nevada), in order to increase the supply of water, approximately 4.5 million cubic metres per day, for drinking and domestic use in the city of Las Vegas.

This is a unique and record-breaking project that has faced the highest pressure of 15 bar ever encountered to date in a tunnelling operation. The previous record was of “just” 8 bar.
