Webuild and subsidiary Cossi Costruzioni awarded €117 million contract for Mondovì (SS28) bypass in Italy’s Piedmont Region

Smart project to enhance turin–savona highway

Project includes three major structures – the San Lorenzo natural tunnel, an artificial tunnel and the Ellero viaduct – along with a road configuration designed to reduce congestion in residential areas and improve access to region

Project to deploy advanced structural-monitoring technologies and a sustainability-focused construction model featuring water-recycling systems and multilayer environmental controls

MILAN, March 20, 2026Improving urban mobility and connections between the A6 Turin–Savona Highway and the valleys of the Cuneo area: this is the goal of the €117-million contract awarded by ANAS (FS Italiane Group) to the consortium composed of Cossi Costruzioni (a Webuild Group subsidiary holding an 80-percent stake) and Webuild itself (20 percent) for the construction of the Mondovì Bypass in Piedmont

The three-kilometre project, part of State Road SS28 “del Colle di Nava,” will leverage technology to ensure long-term safety. A major part of that leverage will be found on the 240-metre-long Ellero viaduct, along which a system that permanently monitors the soundness of the structure will be installed. It will consist of a network of “Internet of Things” sensors that will turn the bridge into a smart infrastructure, transmitting real-time data on deck stability and hydrogeological conditions of the torrent below it.

The project also includes the construction of the 1.4-kilometre-long San Lorenzo tunnel to help reduce heavy vehicle traffic in the Borgato district, cutting travel times to reach the Turin–Savona highway. In addition to the innovation to be brought into the structural design, the project will adopt a rigorous approach to sustainability at the construction site, which will employ approximately 150 workers, both direct and indirectly. The goal is to minimise the environmental footprint through a circular-economy system that allows for a full recovery and reuse of water. A network of digital sensors will optimise water and energy consumption, while mobile barriers will reduce dust dispersion.

Particular attention will be given to local wildlife. In addition to acoustic and visual deterrents to keep animals away from work areas, the project will have temporary wildlife crossings.

This new contract reinforces the effectiveness of Webuild’s business model, which enhances the expertise of its fully integrated subsidiaries. Cossi Costruzioni, specialised in complex works such as tunnels, viaducts and infrastructure in challenging geological and morphological environments, leverages nearly 50 years of experience and a strong vocation in the construction and maintenance of road infrastructure. Among Cossi Costruzioni’s most iconic projects are the restoration of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, the construction of major highway and railway sections in Italy and Switzerland, and the Monte Ceneri Base Tunnel, which is also located in Switzerland.

A member of the Webuild Group since 2022, Cossi Costruzioni contributed to the construction of the Genoa San Giorgio Bridge alongside the PerGenova consortium. The expertise gained across Webuild projects such as the Terzo Valico dei Giovi and the high-speed/high-capacity Verona–Vicenza and Salerno–Reggio Calabria rail lines, as well as other major initiatives in Italy, has come to strengthen a coordinated and highly skilled technical supply chain capable of accelerating processes, increasing construction standards, and generating shared valued. This synergy enables Webuild to expand its production capacity and drive the Group’s growth through the operational excellence of its subsidiaries
