MILAN, March 12, 2021 – There are 7,000 businesses that work alongside the Webuild Group on 18 major infrastructure projects across Italy on contracts so far worth a combined value of more than €7.5 billion, 98% of which assigned to suppliers and sub-suppliers based in the country.

The Ionian Highway, the Verona-Padua high-speed/high-capacity railway, the Metro C in Rome, the M4 metro line in Milan, the metro line in Naples, the Naples-Bari high-speed railway, the Sud-Est Barese di Monopoli-Fasano Hospital: from Trentino-Alto Adige all the way to Sicily, these are the public works - the fruit of the combined effort of thousands of businesses - that are taking Italy towards a more sustainable future.

These businesses are part of an articulated system that create new jobs in communities across Italy. They harbour expertise that ranks among the best in the world and belongs to Italy’s industrial base. With Progetto Italia, the country can start a virtual cycle of a new production process that involves the entire supply chain of small- and medium-sized businesses that also compete in the world on projects developed by the Group in 50 countries. The new investments being considered with resources from the European Union recovery plan will be crucial to support a sector of excellence at a time of deep economic crisis, a sector that promises to create jobs along the entire supply chain of businesses whose expertise are often little known.

Among the businesses that comprise Webuild’s supply chain are leaders in the sector of adhesives as well as that of heavy transport and lifting (that allow for the hoisting of bridge spans without putting workers at risk). There are businesses for foundations, sound barriers, sensors, “traditional” drilling, or “automated” so-called moles of the latest generation, including those that can function on inclines never previously achieved.

The work of suppliers is found on all construction sites in Italy, creating jobs from the northern reaches to the centre, all the way down to the south and the islands. The supply chain is a network of excellence known throughout the world across which Webuild has built 80,291 kilometres of roads and highways and 13,637 kilometres of rail and metro lines, contributing to the development of the sustainable mobility of goods and people across urban and rural areas, offering new solutions to problems caused by chronic congestion in big cities.
