Webuild invests in the young generation
Premio Alberto Giovannini. €1 mln for innovation in the infrastructure sector
Milan, November 4, 2021 – Webuild will invest €1 million in international internships and three-year doctoral bursaries under the “Premio Alberto Giovannini. Innovazione e Digitalizzazione nelle Infrastrutture”, named after the economist and Webuild chairman who passed away in 2019. It will support students, graduates and researchers at Italian universities in an effort to promote innovation and employment in the infrastructure sector among young people who can contribute to the implementation of Italy’s recovery plan.
Webuild will launch the Premio Giovannini at an event to be hosted at Corriere della Sera premises in Milan on November 8. It will be an occasion for guests from the public sector, banks and universities to discuss the role of infrastructure in supporting long-term growth in Italy with the contribution of younger generations who are of even greater importance from a long-term point of view at this unique moment in time.
Webuild Chief Executive Pietro Salini will speak at the event, as well as Francesco Giavazzi, an economic adviser to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and friend of Giovannini, Webuild General Manager Massimo Ferrari, CONSOB Commissioner Carmine Di Noia, and art historian and widow, Patrizia Cavazzini Giovannini.
The event will also pay respects to Giovannini. A public figure committed to young people, he was an Italian economist with an international career at universities such as MIT in Boston and public institutions. The Premio Giovannini celebrates not only his life but also the ethical values and professionalism that he represented throughout his career, values that can guide young people as they enter the work force.
The Premio Giovannini will be offered to students and graduates who produce the best theses on innovation and digitalization in infrastructure. During the next five years there will be 40 internships on construction sites run by the Group in Italy and abroad. In addition, financial support will be given to four doctoral research students for three years.

The Premio Giovannini is part of a wider programme of initiatives being pursued by the Group in Italy and abroad to contribute to the training of young people in the infrastructure sector. It includes collaboration with 18 Italian and foreign universities, , and the creation of the for research and innovation at the University of Genoa. Employees under 35 years of age represent 43% of Webuild’s direct employees.
