The Prime Minister Matteo Renzi visits North West Rail Link construction site in Sydney

November 17, 2014 - The Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in Sydney this morning visited the Salini Impregilo construction site in Kellyville where the group is currently building the North West Rail Link worth €220 million.

The NSW Premier Mike Baird and Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian were present as well as Claudio Costamagna, Chairman of Salini Impregilo and Claudio Lautizi General Manger International Operations.

The project, which consists in the construction of 6.2km of the new metro line in North West Sydney and a 270 metre iconic cable-stayed  bridge, is particularly significant from a technical point of view since it will be the first fully-automated rapid transit rail system in Australia and the first cable stayed railway bridge on a curve built in the continent, a unique state of the art construction of worldwide

Importance.

The North West Rail Link represents the largest major infrastructure for public transport at the moment in Australia and the largest since the history of the Harbour Bridge construction almost 100 years ago.

Salini Impregilo contract is the  most visible section above ground and includes a 4.6km viaduct including the cable stayed bridge, 2 stations, rail section, road construction works etc.

During his speech the premier Matteo Renzi underlined the strategic importance of the North West Rail Project for the relationship between Australia and Italy whilst the premier Mike Baird illustrated the advantage of having a global partner like Salini Impregilo to deliver the project.

Chairman of Salini Impregilo Costamagna expressed satisfaction to work for the client the North west South Rail and illustrated the group’s worldwide experience in the construction of metros around the world: currently in Doha, Riyadh, Copenhagen, San Francisco, Lima, Rome and Milan.

The Transport Minister Gladys Berejekilian declared the project would be creating about 200 new jobs in the area and that the local community would experience an improvement in the quality of life due to traffic congestion reduction.
