Rabat-Kenitra-Larache Motorway

The new toll highway segment of Kenitra-Rabat-Larache is part of a main road linking Agadir in the south of the country to Tangiers on the Mediterranean coast.
The section in question has a total length of 147 km, divided into two lots of 40 km and 107 km, respectively.
The work includes a large amount of earthwork (excavation and embankment), construction of a bridge more than 200 meters long on the Sébou River, in the vicinity of the city of Kenitra, and several lesser civil engineering works (overpasses and underpasses).
The road bed consists of a carriageway 9.50 meters wide (two lanes plus an emergency lane) and a middle separation lane measuring 15 meters wide. In the future, this should allow the highway to be widened from the current two lanes to three lanes for each direction of travel.
The road paving work was done according to ASTM standards, with the laying of a special anti-skid wear layer at junctions.
The foundations of the bridge over the Sébou river sits on 1200 mm diameter pilings while the 33.5 meter long concrete beams, which were made in a special prefabrication field, were installed with the use of mobile cranes.
The typical span consists of five side-by-side beams and the slab is poured in place.
It is worth pointing out that, especially for construction of the Sébou bridge, some of the work was governed by the tides of the nearby Atlantic Ocean, which affected both the water level and path of the river, even though the ocean is more than 15 km away.
From an environmental point of view, every possible effort was made to preserve the "natural habitat" of the areas crossed. In the province of Kenitra, where the road passes through vast areas of cork plantations and olive groves, specially designed architectural barriers were put in place.
