Unionport Bridge

The project, the first to be won by Lane in the New York City area, comprises the replacement of the moveable “bascule” bridge that allows the Bruckner Expressway to cross Westchester Creek. The construction of the new bridge, was done in 10 stages. The challenge was to keep both the expressway and the waterway opened during construction. This entailed building two temporary bridges and erecting the final bascule span in an open position. Work begun in late 2017 and was completed by end of 2025.
The Unionport Bridge supports 50,000-60,000 vehicles per day on the Bruckner Expressway Service Road over Westchester Creek in the Unionport/Castle Hill/Throgs Neck sections of the Bronx. This bridge serves as not only an important local arterial and bus route, but also provides the only link between the Bruckner Expressway and Cross Bronx Expressway to the Hutchinson River Parkway and destinations north.
