The adjoining lots M21 and M22 of the city’s new METEOR line (Metro Est-Ouest Rapide) run from Massena station to the Tolbiac / Nationale crossroads. The METEOR is the first fully automatic line with electronically driven, driver-less trains. Modern comfort and safety requirements led to use of special architectural criteria in the design of the stations and the entrances.

Lot M21 included the following structures:

  • Three access shafts to the tunnel, at a depth of approximately 30 m. Two shafts are used as emergency exits and ventilation ducts, while the third was sealed at the end of the works.
  • A 7.30 m diameter, 990 m long tunnel, excavated with traditional techniques.
  • An underground station, 19 m wide and 120 m long.

Lot M22 involved construction of the passenger entrance to the underground station, “Accès Principal Tolbiac - Nationale”, consisting of a six-storey underground building, 35 m long, 28 m wide and 30 m high.
