Webuild among world’s most influential companies according to Time Magazine
A leading global contractor for the most complex challenges
The recognition by the U.S. newsmagazine highlights Webuild’s ability to deliver complex and pioneering projects, from hydropower plants in Africa to new engineering milestones in Europe
MILAN, May 4, 2026 – “Webuild has become the go-to contractor for the infrastructure projects the world needs most, but that are often the hardest to build.” With this motivation, Webuild has been included in TIME’s ranking of the world’s most influential companies for 2026, the , the annual selection by the U.S. magazine that identifies organisations capable of driving economic and social transformation on a global scale.
This year’s edition includes 205 companies across 20 sectors and recognises Webuild in the Pioneers category, confirming that cutting-edge engineering has become a central engine for addressing the major challenges of the energy transition and sustainable mobility. A prime example is the recent completion of the , the largest hydroelectric project ever built in Africa, capable of doubling Ethiopia’s energy production.
The Group’s impact, TIME notes, is underpinned by continuous technological development. Webuild has introduced new excavation methods to operate in water-saturated ground and deploys machinery that reduces energy consumption. Particular focus is placed on the industrialisation of construction sites, through automated facilities producing large volumes of precast lining segments used for railways, including those supporting the Palermo–Catania–Messina rail corridor in Sicily and the Naples–Bari high-speed railway. There are also innovations in the water sector, such as the Riachuelo environmental remediation project in Argentina. In the field of mobility in Europe, the Group recently reached a historic milestone by completing the first tunnel beneath the Alps for the Brenner Base Tunnel, set to become the world's longest underground rail link.
Webuild’s presence in the ranking demonstrates how cutting-edge engineering is at the forefront of change, and how the Group has helped to tangibly transform the economies of around 50 countries, through projects ranging from metro lines in major world capitals to strategic infrastructure for sustainable mobility and the water sector.
