High-Speed Railways: faster with lower emissions

Railway lines have always been strategic infrastructures for territorial development. They connect cities, favour trade and reduce distances. Webuild, with over 13,648 km built, is a global reference point in designing and building railways, Italian and international railway lines, paying particular attention to sustainable mobility.

From the first railway lines in Italy, to the most recent High Speed and High Capacity systems, the Group's ongoing railway projects will make it possible to reduce travel times by an average of 41%, serving over 34 million people with a safe, fast and low emission service.

Webuild's role in transforming the European railway system

Webuild is protagonist in transforming the European railway system, in line with the Green Deal and the European Union's sustainable mobility strategy. By 2030, the high-speed railway traffic in Europe will be doubled.

The Group is committed to building railway infrastructures that integrate digitlization, sustainability and interoperability, contributing to creating the future European low-emission railway transport system.

The ongoing railway projects will bring an annual reduction of emissions of approximately 6.6 million tonnes of CO2.

The protagonists of this transition are the corridors of the TEN-T trans-European strategic transport network, which connects the most densely populated European regions with the greatest industrial vocation. From the Unique Terzo Valico dei Giovi-Genoa Junction One Project, the new high-speed line that allows to enhance the connections of the Ligurian port system with the main railway lines of Northern Italy and the rest of Europe; to the Brenner Base Tunnel, the central element of the new Brenner railway line that connects the axis that goes from Munich to Verona, to the Naples-Bari HS/HC railway line, part of the transport redevelopment plan of the transverse axis that passes from Naples to Benevento and Foggia, arriving in Bari, and that will make a fundamental contribution to the development of the whole of Southern Italy. There are many high-speed railway line systems designed by Webuild that are part of the TEN-T network that will change the European transport system in a permament way, in sustainability terms.

Sustainable railway systems in the world: the Australian case

In Autsralia, Webuild has built Perth's new railway line, contributing to modifying, in sustainability terms, the mobility of a large Australian city. The Forrestfield-Airport Link will allow residents of peripheral areas of Perth to reach the center in just 20 minutes, with positive impacts in terms of Co2 and reduced travel times.

Our Projects

Webuild's Railways

Webuild Railways are a vision, they stand for technology and sustainability. From the beginning of the 20th century to the most advanced railway projects today, the Group has built infrastructures that transform territories and improve the mobility of millions of people every day.

With a network that extends over 13,648 km, Webuild continues to decelop railways in Italy and globally, contributing, concretely, to the ecological transition and to global infrastructural development.
